Clean Water Act

What is it?

The creeks and rivers of northwest Georgia are some of the most biologically rich in North America.

They're also under pressure.

Runoff from farms, failing septic systems, and eroding stream banks carry bacteria and sediment into the water, making it unsafe for people and hard on the fish and wildlife that depend on it.

Limestone Valley works to fix that, watershed by watershed.

Through grants funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and administered by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, we develop watershed management plans that map out exactly what needs to happen to clean up a specific waterway. Then we get to work putting those plans on the ground.

Community benefits

For farmers and landowners, it means we help share the cost on conservation improvements like fencing cattle out of streams, stabilizing eroding banks, and managing nutrients.

For homeowners near a waterway, it can mean we help cover the cost of repairing a failing septic system before it reaches the creek.
